Postgraduate scholarships support UWA's position as one of Australia's leading research-intensive universities and the premier research institution in WA.

Research Training Program

Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents are exempt from paying a contribution toward the cost of their research courses if UWA provides them with a Research Training Program place. This exemption applies for up to four years full-time equivalent study for a doctorate by research and two years full-time equivalent study for a master's by research. The RTP is a performance-based funding scheme administered by the Federal Department of Education and Training.

Admission Requirements

Applicants are expected to satisfy the normal requirements for entry into a master's by research degree and to present a folio of creative writing, of which at least a third has been published by reputable publishers, and a 2000- to 3000-word critical essay on an aspect of the writer's craft.

English competency

English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the University’s English language requirements to be eligible for a place.

About the course

This course is taken in English, in any approved creative writing genre. The program is up to two years of independent, supervised creative writing and research towards the preparation of a thesis on a topic related to one or more aspects of the creative work.
